A Personal Story

BCG was instrumental to my career development, and not only because it provided me with a chance to work in the telecom sector, which was a key interest of mine. More importantly, I had a chance to acquire the skills that have since been crucial to my professional life outside of BCG. Those skills include analytical rigor, a need to question the fundamentals, to be comfortable working in an environment of diversity, and last, but not least, the formulation of business strategy.

BCG was a unique experience for me. It brought me unforgettable memories, in both professional and personal terms. These include memories of hard work, steep learning curves, and quick shifts from uncertainty to final proofs of hypotheses. They continue with the terrific atmosphere created by colleagues, great, intense Mediterranean outings, and lots of fun. It is a unique feeling that can only be experienced when one works hard and plays hard. Most importantly, all of this has translated into lasting friendships.

Prior to joining BCG, Dušan worked for three years in FMCG marketing in various positions and studied an MBA at IESE in Spain and the Fuqua Business School at Duke University in the United States. During his tenure of more than five years in BCG he worked at the company’s Warsaw and Prague offices. Currently he is employed at T-Mobile Slovensko as Executive Marketing Director.

A Personal Story

I studied economics at Charles University in Prague, and at that point I was already considering my future work in management consulting. When searching for the best consulting company, BCG seemed like a friendly and open-minded but thoroughly professional company, providing out-of-the-box solutions for the benefit of its business clients.

I discovered upon joining BCG, that my initial impressions had been right. BCG really was, after all, a group of friendly, open-minded professionals. What I will always remember and appreciate is the support I received in the first weeks. The support given by my partners, project leaders, and peers helped me to overcome this potentially difficult period. It meant I was able to build experience and learn a great deal very quickly.

Experience and know-how is what sells BCG to its clients, but without doubt I consider the company’s people to be its most valuable asset. They are unique even among consulting companies. They are able to deliver unique solutions and are recognized as leaders.

The knowledge I gained during my time at BCG—the ability to be flexible, and the exposure I gained to external environments and working practices—has proved invaluable in my current position. Despite the fact that I consider my current job to be a very attractive one, I will always consider my time at BCG to be the essential building block in my career.

Patrik studied economics at Charles University in Prague. He joined BCG straight from university. After two years he decided to pursue his career in the energy industry and joined RWE group as Regulation Manager at Východoslovenská energetika. Since 2009 he is responsible for regulation and corporate development.

Nearly five years of experience with BCG has been, first of all, about the pleasure of being and working with a strong team of talented people. At BCG I worked with highly professional, deeply creative individuals who shared a great enthusiasm for their work. The vast majority of them have the passion to grow, understand the world, and make it a better place.

The BCG people represent a unique diversity of personalities and ideas, a sense of humor, and an open mindset. They foster the climate of BCG, which is to be found nowhere else.

I had many fascinating experiences during my time at BCG, including the opportunity to manage large, very ambitious projects, often of a global nature, with the support of an international team of consultants.

Background

Before joining BCG Andrzej had a very rich business life including being founder of a successful bank. In 2002 he joined BCG as a member of BCG’s leadership in the CEE region. After five years in BCG he left to become CEO of one of the largest insurance companies in CEE.
